The end of June was a rather busy and proud time for the Ballikinrain School Community, as the academic year came to an close.
Boys and staff were praised by Adam Ingram MSP and Minister for Children and Early Years, accompanied by Bruce Crawford MSP, for their hard work and commitment when he enjoyed a relaxed and informative visited the school on 14
th
June 2010.
Mr Ingram was given a tour of the living and learning areas of the school as seen through the eyes of 2 of the pupils.
He later enjoyed an informal but informative discussion with Crossreach and Ballikinrain staff on issues relating to National debate on the complexities of giving the best possible service to young people and their families within the care system. The close family and community ethos and culture of the school was further enhanced by more pupil involvement serving tea and cakes made in the Home Economics class and a presentation of a photographic book of local sights called ‘The red wellies’ by its 2 creators, Zan and Dan.
In a letter of thanks from Mr Ingram he stated ‘ I enjoyed meeting Crossreach staff and was very pleased to have the opportunity to speak to Young people and see the results of the work you are doing to develop the boys’ capacities as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to society. I was very impressed with the positive learning environment and your approach to care, particularly your commitment to early years/ early intervention agenda and to working with the boys’ families.’
