Employability Programme (Geilsland Vocational LINKS)
Geilsland Vocational Links (GVL) is a Social Firm providing employment opportunities for trainees to enter the world of work in a supported but realistic fasion.
Social Firms subscribe to the core values of - Enterprise - Employment - Empowerment.
Social Firms are businesses that 'support', rather than 'projects' that trade. Social Firms are supportive and committed to the social and economic integration of disadvantaged people through employment. A key means to this end is economic empowerment through the payment of market wages to all employees. Social Firms advocate a meaningful level of service user involvement through the entire social firm development process and future decision making, encouraging and facilitating user involvement through the adoption of a partnership approach. Service user involvement is encouraged at every stage of the enterprise development.
Geilsland Vocational Links offers a series of Vocational, Enterprising initiatives which takes young people in S4/S5 further down the path of understanding and experience into the World of Work.
GVL builds upon the skills learned through the Skills for Work Curriculum in Construction and Horticulture and provides a path for trainees into the world of Industry Standards and Qualifications.
